Good evening, denizens of this new world, human and pokemon alike. I am Xemnas. Perhaps there will be a few of you who recognize such a name.

[His pleasant tone never wavers; there's almost no emotional inflection at all.] This is a world I know little of. I have studied the information I have been able to find, and this little foal has been very dutiful in attempting to aid me in that search. [At this, there is a small, cheerful-sounding "Blitz!" in the background.]

If one could supply further information, or where to find it, I would be ... grateful. But tell me, countless unknown strangers, is it truly so that the humans of this world avoid combat in favor of asking their pokemon to do it for them? My small friend here seems incapable of fighting anything much tougher than a tumbleweed- [A protesting whinny this time.] -and yet I am to rely on it for my defense against all this strange world might strike with?

[It's thoughtfully said, as if this 'Xemnas' has no investment in the question or possible answers.]

One could only attempt to find out by using such weaponry on them, but it would be likely extremely inadvisable. While the pokemon may be willing, as they seem willing to agree to nearly anything, the backlash from everything not a pokemon..

Even so, unless you ended up with a complete doormat of a Pokemon I doubt they'd put up with being attacked for long. Most are fairly obedient, but they do have wills and personalities of their own and can be pushed to their limits.

I have no intention of attacking my own pokemon, save in training and with prior notification, as they seem intelligent enough to understand. Abusing one's allies is a swift and sure way to suddenly not have allies.

Hah, precisely. They do seem to take well to training with their trainers, at least-I haven't personally tried it as my skills were never geared towards physical strength, but I had an acquaintance who did.

Training alongside their instructor may well build camaraderie.

I may attempt it myself. My skills are somewhat geared towards physical strength, I am certain I can keep up while she is still small. I assume you went with more traditional methods of training your pokemon, then? Have you instructed them in self-defense against humans?

That seems to be the intent behind it, yes. I have indeed only used more traditional methods, so I can't say how effective it is in that regard.

Furthermore, I rather doubt they're not capable of defending themselves against the humans here in the first place, particularly given the stringent limits on weaponry.

One can get very inventive with weapons. I have heard rumors of an organization named Team Rocket, which may pose a direct threat to a pokemon's safety. Being able to defend against them seems wise.

From what anyone can tell, Team Rocket is working with roughly the same resources we are and is completely laughable as an organization. Some of its members are legitimate threats, but as a whole... normal training would suffice.

Truly? I was told they were an actual threat. It seems my informer was mistaken. A pity, I'd been looking forward to a possible challenge eventually.

I did say that some individual members were a threat... unfortunately, it's up to luck as to whether you'll get them or some idiot who brags about their harebrained schemes on the network with nothing to back up their bravado.
