[It's.. a blitzle, poking cautiously with a stick clenched in her teeth. Distinctly. And it's still nighttime, OR said blitzle is somewhere rather dark. It could be Ilex Forest, that place doesn't get too bright even in daytime. She hasn't figured out human speech, so her very quiet activation of the pokegear and query are both quite firmly properly 'pokemon'. There is a deerling jostling for position, but seems to lack the size and weight to shove the blitzle aside.]
I know I'm not allowed to use this but I think I can make the messages go away later on. Does anyone know how to make your trainer happy again after you've made him mad? We've tried a lot of things, and it doesn't work!
[Those who don't understand pokemon: good luck figuring this one out.]

Date: 2013-08-15 10:40 pm (UTC)What sorts of things have you already tried?
[video] [Pokemans]
Date: 2013-08-15 10:54 pm (UTC)Well. I tried finding another pokemon of the same type he was after, but they're really hard to find so that didn't work too well. Sorrow tried grooming his hair and that went really, really badly-
[The deerling, apparently aforementioned 'Sorrow', makes a faint and undeerlike grumbling noise.]
So we went after stronger pokemon to prove we can work together and aren't weak at all and .. that went badly too, and we got scolded. ... Just trying to be cute doesn't work too well either, Sorrow tried that, I'm not as good at it. ..He's not a bad trainer, really, he's just hard to get close to I think. And hard to please.
[Finally giving up at getting control of the pokegear, Sorrow settles nearby, displeased.]
It's not easy working as a team but I think we're going to have to learn really fast to make him happy. And catch that zorua.

Date: 2013-08-15 11:38 pm (UTC)That sounds a lot like how my trainer can be. It took him a long time to start being happy with us when he first started training, but he did realize that he could be our friend and partner eventually. So you may have to be very patient with yours until he learns better. Humans can be very silly about these things.
[He nods, confident in this advice. And then thinks of something, and adds hurriedly:]
...And they can be especially picky about their hair, so I don't think you should try to groom it again.
But for right now, learning to work together will probably help. Is it just the two of you, or are there others?
[video] [Pokemans]
Date: 2013-08-15 11:46 pm (UTC)[Sorrow seems a little befuddled that grooming ISN'T a good way to build good relationships, but maybe humans just were that different from deerlings. His opinion earns him a half-hearted kick in his direction; it doesn't impact and the deerling doesn't move.]
He just wants the best he can get, I think. Very high standards, like some pokemon won't eat a berry if it's got a bit of an odd color or is chewed on a bit but others don't mind at all. We have to be really strong, but since it's just us we can't handle everything he asks us to fight yet. ...Ah. Working together's just going to take a lot of practice, won't it?
[video] [Pokemans]
Date: 2013-08-16 01:05 am (UTC)Yes, working like a team does take practice. And you both have to be willing to help each other for it to work. One of my teammates is a Yanmega, Bicho, who is much faster than I am, but he gets hurt easier. So when we fight a battle together, I can let him hide behind me from strong attacks, and he can use his speed to distract faster Pokemon so that I can hit them better. If he wanted to be out in front all the time, I wouldn't be able to attack without hitting him. And if I refused to take damage for his sake, he'd be knocked out quicker and I'd have to face several opponents alone.
I've been good friends with Bicho ever since I was a small Larvitar. We played together all the time, and now we know each other so well that it is very hard to beat us. So maybe if you have a hard time fighting battles together, you could start out playing games like tag instead. Or hide and seek. Then you might find that you like each other better, too. It's nice to have a good friend when your trainer isn't very, ah... [He pauses, searching for the word he wants. The Blitzle probably wouldn't like it if Chimera said his trainer wasn't a good one yet.]
...friendly.
[video] [Pokemans]
Date: 2013-08-16 01:27 am (UTC)Sorrow and I are almost as fast. I'm stronger, but he can change his type so things can't use his species against him. I guess .... I guess that would make him more versatile than me?
[She doesn't seem too keen on suggesting anything might be better at anything than she is.]
What if our trainer doesn't like us playing? We sometimes get to play with his stuff, but that's not really a proper game. I like games, but I don't want to disappoint him anymore. We might just get left at a pokecenter or something.
[The pokedex is briefly abandoned in favor of the blitzle attempting to clamp her teeth down on the deerling's ear and give it a shake. He squeals and kicks to get free, but in spite of the newly sore ear, seems to appreciate Chimera's advice. There's something mumbled to this effect, as the blitzle takes the pokegear back over.]
We're not going to be abandoned, we just need to pick up the slack! ...W-well maybe if we can't when he's awake we can when he's asleep, like right now. It can't hurt to try, as long as we're quiet.
Can't go too far, there's still wild pokemon around. ...Will it be easier to tell what our strengths are when we evolve? You're a really big sort of fellow, so it's easier to see what you're good at, but we're still small.
video
Date: 2013-08-16 11:11 am (UTC)Well... What happened to make him angry?
Date: 2013-08-16 06:04 pm (UTC)He wanted us to corner and catch a certain pokemon. It wasn't stronger than us but it was a lot faster, and really tricky, and it got away. We'd been following it all day trying to find a way to keep it from escaping. He said if we worked together better it wouldn't have happened and ... and I guess he's right. We're not good at working together yet.
Date: 2013-08-16 08:46 pm (UTC)I see... That's something you can improve, though, right? With practice... And once you're able to show him that you can work together better, that might be able to make him happier.
Date: 2013-08-16 10:33 pm (UTC)Yes, absolutely. But that's going to take a lot of time and work, and ... having an upset trainer the whole time is probably not going to be really good.
Date: 2013-08-18 02:21 pm (UTC)[Chihiro's eyebrows furrow.] But-- Even if you can't work together completely and perfectly right away, he'll be able to notice you're working on it, right? I think that's really good...
Date: 2013-08-18 11:44 pm (UTC)Hopefully. It doesn't seem like there's a lot else we can hope to do for the short-term. Maybe he'll get in a better mood when the egg hatches too. Teams are better in more than just two, right?
Date: 2013-08-19 03:23 pm (UTC)Gamma and Aldis work together well when it's just the two of them, though. Probably because they hatched together...

Date: 2013-08-20 04:16 pm (UTC)[The kirlia stirs a little from his translating and glances up at Chihiro.]
Date: 2013-08-20 04:22 pm (UTC)I guess that's all we can do for now, and hope his mood gets better. Thank you for your help.

Date: 2013-08-21 09:59 am (UTC)Mmhm. Good luck, okay...? I hope things work out for you soon.

Date: 2013-08-21 03:53 pm (UTC)I hope so too. Thank you for your suggestions!
